Original Atomic Bomb Sterling Silver Pin and Appreciation Certificate from the War Department (Army Service Forces Corps of Engineers)Manhattan District dated August 6, 1945. This historic document was printed by the United States of America War Department and has an underprint of the Manhattan Project Logo. This item has the printed signature of the United States Secretary of War, Henry L Stimson and is over 63 years old.

The pin is in excellent condition with no scratches or marks, with orignial patina. It is marked on the back Whithead & Hoag, Sterling.

The certificate is in the original frame and glass.

Henry Lewis Stimson (September 21, 1867 October 20, 1950) was an American statesman, who served as Secretary of War, Governor-General of the Philippines, and Secretary of State. He was a conservative Republican, and a leading lawyer in New York City. He is best known as the civilian Secretary of War during World War II, chosen for his aggressive stance against Nazi Germany, with responsibility for the Army and Air Force. He managed the conscription and training of 12 million soldiers and airmen, the purchase and transportation to battlefields of 30 percent of the nation's industrial output, and the building and decision to use the atomic bomb.
